Cahersiveen

The view over Cahersiveen from ‘Over the Water’ showing its setting between the mountains and the estuary of the Ferta river.

Cahersiveen is a picturesque market town with a rich history. It lies at the foot of Beentee Mountain, on the banks of the River Fertha, overlooking Valentia Harbour. The town’s main street is lined with shops and restaurants. The imposing church at the centre of the town is named in memory of Daniel O’Connell, one of Iveragh’s most famous historical figures, who was born in the town. The ‘Old Barracks’, beside the river, is built in the Schloss style (a German term for a building similar to a château or manor house) and houses an interpretive centre.
